Mair Alight is deeply focused on finding ways to reach more people to support them living in joy and well being.
She has shared Nonviolent Communication (NVC) with organizations and in public trainings, with mental health patients, prisoners and preschoolers.
She enjoys sharing stories, songs and images to inspire and connect to her audience, using the diversity of her life experiences to offer relevance and to invite understanding.
She is a co-founding member of the BayNVC Safer Communities Project which has brought weekly NVC classes to San Quentin Prison and county jails for over a decade, brought NVC to Vacaville Prison Mental Health (two years contract) and currently is a volunteer working with the Seattle Freedom Project, which offers Mindfulness and NVC trainings in and out of prisons in Washington.
Mair has driven a tractor, taxicab and bus, and has worked as a field hand, horse trainer and riding stable guide, and is an animal communicator.
She has raised two children, founded, operated and sold several consignment clothing stores, been a New Thought minister and teen youth advisor for a decade, was a witness in a murder trial and has conducted energy healings. She is a founding board member of a number of nonprofits, and has also worked for the Franchise Tax Board, California.
She brings a broad diversity of experience and a resultant depth of understanding for others to her training.
She has authored a children’s NVC coloring book, Compassionate Underwear (Bear) as well as the DVD “Living NVC" with Carol Chase, and created a game "Jackal Cafe and Another Way", authored an adult coloring book Vashon-Maury Island Coloring Book, and is currently collaborating on Tools, Not Rules: Handbook for a Living Language.
